STOCHOVE: VOYAGE DU SIEUR DE STOCHOVE FAICT ES ANNEES 1630, 1631, 1632, 1633. BRUXELLES, 1643 First edition, in large 4to, early 19th century fine leather over marble boards, front board slightly trimmed on upper edge, complete: title, pictorial title {4}, 538, {2) pages , text clean and bright, overall in almost fine condition. The very first publication of this early important travel of four Flemish and French travelers in the Levant. Stochove's account is heavily valued because it provides accurate early detailed observations of the Levant. They had visited several parts of Greece, Constantinople, Smyrna, Cyprus and parts of the Middle East during three years (1630-33). This 1643 edition has been prepared for Stochove s friends with a very limited print run. It is exceptionally rare and captures the immediate, unedited reflections of his circle of travelers (like Fermanel and Fauvel) right after compiling their journals. This edition is absent from all major collections.
