Hand-Knotted Turkmen Bokhara Area Rug 20th century Artist/Designer/Manufacturer: Unknown (Traditional Turkmen Tribal Weavers) Materials: Wool Pile on a Wool or Cotton Foundation Marking(s): None Cataloguer's Note: This fine tribal area rug showcases a classic Bokhara design, historically woven by the nomadic Turkmen tribes of Central Asia. The central field features an elegant, repeating grid of multi-colored geometric gul (medallion) motifs arranged in symmetrical columns. Set against a distinctive and highly sought-after pistachio green or sea-green field color, the central elements are grounded by a wide, elaborately patterned geometric border rendered in rich shades of terracotta, rust, and crimson red. Finished with neat fringe ends along the width, the rug exhibits the traditional craftsmanship, dense hand-knotted pile, and organic variation characteristic of vintage tribal weavings. 54" x 72" Good pre-owned condition with tassel loss, some signs of age and related wear, and discoloration.
