280 - Herend "Rothschild Bird" Porcelain Tureen 20th century Artist/Designer/Manufacturer: Herend Porcelain Manufactory (Hungary) Materials: Hand-painted porcelain with 24k gold accents Marking(s): Herend blue crest mark and pattern/shape numbers stamped or painted on the underside Cataloguer's Note: This magnificent, hand-painted porcelain tureen is executed in Herend’s iconic "Rothschild Bird" (RO) pattern, a classic design originally created in 1850 for the European banking dynasty. The pattern narrates a charming 19th-century tale about Baroness Rothschild, who lost her pearl necklace in her garden, only for it to be found by two birds perched in a tree. The exterior features finely detailed vignettes of paired birds alongside a scattered array of colorful butterflies and insects. This specific piece is heavily accented by sculpted relief elements, including organic branch-form handles adorned with yellow roses, and a lid surmounted by a distinctive, vibrant lemon slice finial. H 9.5" x L 13.75" x W 8.25" Good condition. Unless otherwise stated, all information provided is the opinion of our specialists.
