BADE (Josse). *Navis stultifera collectanea*. Paris, Enguilbert de Marnef, 1507. In-4, brown morocco on beveled boards, cold-tooled and gilt fillets, clover-shaped fleurons in the border and on the spine, clasps (Modern binding). Gothic edition featuring a title printed in red and black, adorned with a woodcut and the Enguilbert de Marnef bookmark. (Renouard, Bade, vol. II, p. 83, no. 4.) Josse Bade’s text is inspired by Sebastian Brant’s *Narrenschiff* (*Ship of Fools*), a famous satirical and moral treatise first published in 1494. His *Navis stultifera* was first printed in 1505. Josse Bade divided Brant’s text into 113 verses, each accompanied by a prose explanation whose moral often differs from that of Brant’s text. The edition is illustrated with 115 woodcuts copied from the first editions of this seminal *Ship of Fools*. Pages are often slightly stained, particularly the first few; there are some foxing spots, a small repair, and part of the margin is doubled on the last page. Appraiser: Mr. Dominique Courvoisier
