A pair of Ando cloisonné vases with a "waterfowl" design Andō Shippō-ten was founded in Nagoya in 1880 as a specialist dealer in cloisonné ware. The Andō family, originally dealers in kiseru (tobacco pipes) trading under the name Murata-ya, took over the operations of the Nihon Shippō Manufacturing Company. They appointed Kaji Satarō — grandson of Kaji Tsunekichi, the founding figure of Owari cloisonné — as factory manager, thereby securing a direct link to the tradition's founding techniques. H: 35.6cm D: 17.5cm ×3 with surface hairline cracks. Japan
