256 - An old blue-and-white ewer with a handle, inscribed with a Chinese poem A blue-and-white ewer fitted with a loop handle, the exterior densely inscribed in underglaze blue with Chinese verse. The calligraphic decoration, covering the vessel's surface in closely written characters, gives the piece a literary character unusual in ceramic ware — an object that invites reading as much as viewing.
