An antique blue and white floral pattern pitcher An ewer displaying the qualities distinctive of kosometsuke ("old blue-and-white") ware: the dry, textured surface known as kase, and the small glaze losses at the rim called mushikui ("worm-eaten"). Far from being regarded as defects, these rustic features are integral to the evocative visual character (keshiki) for which kosometsuke is so highly prized in the Japanese tea tradition. W: 13.5cm H: 15cm A pattern of fine crazing is visible. Wooden box China, Ming Dynasty
