A bronze censer with a "sea creature" design Shisou was a metalworker active in the late Ming dynasty. He inherited traditional bronze-casting techniques and was especially skilled in the technique of inlaying silver wire into bronze (qianyin). His works were primarily objects for literati appreciation, such as censers and Buddhist figures, most bearing his two-character signature "Shisou" inlaid in silver, in seal or clerical script, typically on the base of the piece. As he left no direct successors, his works are extremely rare and highly prized; the British Museum holds bronze Buddhist figures and censers attributed to him. H: 11.3cm D: 11cm Wooden box China
