Saint Mark the Evangelist Russia, probably c. 1650/1700 69 x 40 cm A three-quarter-length figure of Saint Mark, holding the Gospel book in his right hand. Inscribed in Church Slavonic at the top (‘The Holy Apostle Mark’). The Evangelist is facing left (towards the icon of Christ), which suggests that the icon originates from the row of apostles on a church iconostasis.
