Large male figure of a saint, c. 1500 / early 16th century The youthful figure, an apostle or a saint, wearing a distinctive, cap-like headdress and with shoulder-length hair - typical of the period around 1500 / early 16th century - is clad in a softly draping, high-waisted robe. His hand on the left pulls a fold of fabric upwards, so that the hem of the robe lifts to reveal a foot clad in a pointed ‘Gothic’ shoe. The facial features are subtle and slightly melancholic, a stylistic characteristic of late Gothic sculptures from southern Germany or the Alpine regions. Linden wood, hollowed out at the back, stuccoed, polychromed and partially gilded. Some areas of chipping with colour loss; the polychrome, partially gilded finish is largely original; the right hand is missing; height 97 cm
