Windmills and a flag situate the scene in the Netherlands; oil on panel; minor glazing and soiling in the sky and at the edges, but the main scene is very well preserved; 30 x 41 cm; signed on the right, in a gilded stucco frameAbout the artist: After attending grammar school, Adolf Stademann, like his father, turned to landscape painting at an early age. He took lessons from the landscape and architectural painter Carl August Lebschée and the landscape painter Moritz Eduard Lotze. Stademann soon developed a style of his own. In addition to rural scenes, he painted night scenes in a style similar to that of Eduard Schleich the Elder. Later, inspired by 17th-century Dutch landscape painting, he specialised in winter landscapes with figures and moonlit scenes with an impressionist touch.
