Attributed to Heinrich Anton Heger (certain), “Munich - The Residenz”, oil painting c. 1880, in its original gilded stucco frame Heinrich Anton Heger, 1832 Hadersleben - 1888 Munich, German-Danish architectural painter, unsigned, here: a richly detailed interior depiction of the Munich Residenz (Papal Chambers) showing a view through an open, richly decorated wooden door into a sumptuous room, oil on wood, 36 x 30 cm, old adhesive labels on the reverse: 1 x with old handwritten label ‘Munich Residenz’, 1 x with no. 580. About the artist: Heinrich Anton Heger studied architectural painting under Heinrich Hansen at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen from 1852 to 1856, specialising in Renaissance interiors. He achieved his first successes with depictions of the ducal prayer chair in the chapel of Gottorf Castle. A scholarship from the Copenhagen Academy of Fine Arts enabled him to undertake a study tour via Wismar, Lüneburg, Hildesheim, Dresden and Nuremberg to Munich, where he was a pupil of Hermann Dyckan at the Drawing School for Artisans from 1858 to 1862. During this period, he produced depictions of the Old German House in Hildesheim, Heilbronn Abbey and Ulm Minster. In 1865, he settled in Kiel and devoted himself primarily to interior depictions of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck. In 1869, the Prussian Ministry of Culture granted him a study trip to the Netherlands and Belgium; in 1871 to Danzig; and in 1874 to Italy. When he could no longer make a living in Kiel, he settled in Munich in 1875.
