Ole Wolhardt Stampe Due, Danish landscape with thatched cottage, large oil painting from 1902, framed Ole Wolhardt Stampe Due, 1875 - Copenhagen - 1925, Vast northern landscape with thatched cottage in bluish tones, oil on canvas, 63 x 78 cm, signed, dated 1902, labelled on the reverse, framed About the artist: Due initially studied at the Technical University in Copenhagen and subsequently, from 1897-98, at the city’s Academy of Fine Art. From 1898 onwards, he exhibited regularly, including in the Charlottenborg circle and later at the ‘Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling’. Landscapes with atmospheric lighting are particularly characteristic of Due. His paintings lie somewhere between Realism and Impressionism. He frequently used rather cool, bluish tones and sought to capture the mood of a particular season or time of day. Due was not a leading figure among the Skagen painters, such as P. S. Krøyer or Anna Ancher. Rather, he belonged to the wider circle of this Danish art scene. He is of particular interest precisely because his works reflect the development of Danish landscape painting around 1900.
