Andy Warhol, “Committee 2000”, signed colour silkscreen print from 1982, in a gallery frame Andy Warhol, 1928 Pittsburgh - 1987 New York, here: “Committee 2000”, colour silkscreen print, 76.2 x 50.8 cm, on sturdy Lenox museum board, numbered 361/2000, signed, drystamp of the New York printer Rupert Jasen Smith on the left, in excellent condition, mounted on a passepartout and set in a gallery frame, WVZ no. Feldman/Schellmann II.289 About the work: This work was commissioned and published by a Munich-based group called Committee 2000. The aim was to raise funds through the sale of the prints for upcoming projects to mark the turn of the millennium. For this, Warhol created/used a still life depicting the aftermath of a party. The image shows three champagne glasses (one of which has been knocked over), confetti and a box bearing the inscription ‘Committee 2000’. The image strikes a balance between the glamour of hedonistic nights (inspired by Warhol’s time at New York’s Studio 54) and a subtle critique of consumerism, which addresses the transience and inner emptiness that follow excess.
