Andy Warhol, 5 x ‘Flowers’ (5 colour variations), large-scale colour screen prints, Sunday B.Morning, all framed Andy Warhol, 1928 Pittsburgh - 1987 New York, born Andrew Warhola, American artist, filmmaker and publisher, as well as co-founder and leading figure of Pop Art in the USA, here: 5 x “Flowers”, colour silkscreen prints, 90 x 90 cm each, all framed differently (collection only, no postage) The “Flowers” are among the best-known Pop Art motifs of the 1960s and became icons of the Pop Art movement. The inspiration for the “Flowers” series was a photograph of hibiscus blossoms that Warhol saw in the magazine “Modern Photography”. In his paintings, however, Warhol greatly simplified the shapes of the blossoms and intensified their colours to a distinctive luminosity, giving Warhol’s “Flowers” an idealised appearance. Andy Warhol created various versions of the “Flowers”. Whilst he did not alter the four large blossoms set against a grass-like background, he did vary the colours across the different versions. Through these varying colour schemes, Warhol gives the “Flowers” an ever-changing impression. The ‘Sunday B. Morning’ edition: Amongst various limited-edition silkscreen prints by Andy Warhol, the so-called ‘Sunday B. Morning’ edition has been released, named after the print workshop. The works in the “Sunday B. Morning” edition have almost identical dimensions to those in the limited edition, but they are unlimited and unsigned. However, they are original screen prints made from the screens used for the limited edition - that’s what makes them so special! For authentication purposes, copies of the “Sunday B. Morning” edition bear the blue stamp “Fill in your own signature” on the reverse.
