Wolf Vostell, “Rheingold”, signed photolithograph from 1992, framed & “Cadillac Brunnen”, signed colour offset print from 1987, 9 parts, in original packaging Wolf Vostell, 1932 Leverkusen - 1998 Berlin, German painter, sculptor, Fluxus and happening artist, here: “Rheingold”, aerial view of Cologne superimposed with US dollar bills, photolithograph on newspaper, 29.5 x 23.5 cm, 24/250, signed on the right, framed & “Cadillac Fountain”, nine-part multiple, colour offset on corrugated cardboard. The cardboard pieces can be assembled into a three-dimensional miniature model sculpture (approx. 98 x 104 x 100 cm). This tabletop model illustrates Vostell’s architectural and artistic vision of the car fountain encased in concrete for collectors, in the signed original box, one of 250 copies; in a few places, particularly at the pre-punched holes and the pre-folded areas, the corrugated cardboard is slightly indented; otherwise, particularly the ‘Cadillacs’, in good condition. About the artist: In 1953, Wolf Vostell began an apprenticeship as a lithographer and attended the School of Applied Arts at the University of Wuppertal under Ernst Oberhoff; in 1955-1956 he studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris and, in 1957, at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. Vostell’s 1958 happening ‘Das Theater ist auf der Straße’ (‘The Theatre is on the Street’) in Paris was the first happening in Europe. His 1961 happening ‘Cityrama’ in Cologne was the first happening in Germany. Vostell produced objects using televisions and car parts. Influenced by the work of Karlheinz Stockhausen in the WDR’s electronic studio, he created electronic TV ‘dé-coll/ages’ in 1959. This marked the beginning of his involvement in the Fluxus movement, which he co-founded in 1962.
