During his ‘structural paintings’ phase (from 1962/1963), he arranged geometric forms in strict grids. From 1964 onwards, he used algorithmic programmes and one of the first computers in Prague to determine the combinations of forms, colours and rotations. These works brought him international renown, and he exhibited at documenta 4 in Kassel in 1968, amongst other venues. Sýkora’s works are now held in major art collections worldwide, such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Museum Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich.
