Between 1963 and 1973, Subkov became a close pupil of Vladimir Sterligov (1904-1973). Sterligov, in turn, was a direct pupil of the famous avant-garde artist Kazimir Malevich (1879-1935). Under Sterligov, Subkov studied the concepts of Impressionism, Cubism, Suprematism and Mikhail Matyushin’s theory of colour. Drawing on Sterligov’s theory of ‘spherical geometry’, Subkov developed his own new painting technique. The underlying artistic philosophy conceives of the world as an indivisible and infinite whole.
