In 1939, Gustave Singier met the painters Alfred Manessier, Elvire Jan and Jean Le Moal. In 1941, he took part in the exhibition *Vingt jeunes peintres de tradition française* (‘Twenty Young Painters of the French Tradition’), organised by Jean Bazaine. It was the first exhibition of avant-garde painting in Paris during the German occupation of France. From 1951 to 1954, he taught at the Académie Ranson. Following this period, his works were shown at biennials and exhibitions throughout Europe, for example at the Kestner-Gesellschaft in Hanover in 1957. Gustave Singier also took part in documenta 1 in 1955 and documenta II in 1959 in Kassel.
