Zinaida Yevgenyevna Serebryakova (Зинаи́да Евге́ньевна Серебряко́ва) attr. (attributed), Female Nude, pastel from 1929, framed Zinaida Yevgenyevna Serebryakova 1884 (Gregorian calendar) Neskuchnoye estate, Belgorod/Kursk Uyezd, Russian Empire - 1967 Paris, attributed, Russian-French painter and exponent of Russian Impressionism, who lived in France following her emigration in 1924; here: Reclining female nude, pastel, 65 x 50 cm, signed or inscribed and dated on the left 1929, on the reverse a large round stamp ‘Atelier Zinaide Serebriakova’, mounted below the passepartout in a fine gold-stucco frame from the 1920s Regarding the attribution: Stylistically, this pastel fits very well within the artist’s oeuvre, and the signature also appears unobtrusive. However, as Zinaida Yevgenyevna Serebriakova is primarily famous for her nudes, portraits of women and pastel drawings, documented attempts at forgery often focus on these subjects and techniques. As her original works partially fetch very high prices on the international art market, we can/wish to offer this painting here only as ‘attributed’.
