Pino Pinelli, “Pittura su carta”, mixed media, 2012, gallery-framed Pino Pinelli, born 1938 in Catania, Italian painter, one of the leading exponents of Analytical Painting; shown here: Composition with two red circular areas with a velvet-like appearance on a coarse white ground, mixed media/polymer/pigment/cardboard, mounted on cardboard, 17 x 11 cm, inscribed on the reverse, signed, titled, dated ‘Milano 2012’, gallery-framed under glass About the artist: Pino Pinelli, active in Milan from the 1960s onwards, was a defining figure of Analytical Painting, who broke away from traditional pictorial concepts and the minimalist style by dismantling the monochrome canvas and replacing it with fragmented colour elements distributed across the wall space. Through this artistic development - from the early ‘Topologies’ and monochromes, via the first ‘Riss’ in 1975, to the famous ‘Diffusions’ (Diffusions)-he expanded painting beyond its classical boundaries and made the wall itself a central component of the artwork.
