Udo Nöger, Cup, large oil painting from his early work Udo Nöger, born 1961 in Enger, Cup on a white background, oil on panel, 101 x 101 cm, monogrammed, edges slightly chipped, without frame About the artist: Nöger is a contemporary artist best known for his abstract, translucent paintings. He now lives and works primarily in the USA and Germany. 1984-1990: Studied at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. This was followed by further study visits to Paderborn, Berlin and Spain from 1990 to 1992. As a scholarship holder of the Heinz Nixdorf Institute, Nöger spent two years each in New York (1970-1972) and Denver (1990-1992) from 1993 onwards. His travels to the South Pacific, particularly to Tahiti, the Marquesas Islands and Easter Island/Rapa Nui, were a major influence. The local culture and the Rongorongo script had a strong influence on his early works. From the mid-1990s onwards, he developed a completely different visual language: less colour, less representationalism and ever more light. His series ‘Light as a Material’, which began around 1997, became particularly well known. Nöger has taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Europe, Asia, North and South America. His works are held in international museums and in private collections, including those of Halle Berry, Sylvester Stallone, Elton John and Bill Gates.
