Henri Matisse, publisher’s announcement for *Jazz* with two original lithographs, Tériade éditeur, Paris, 1947 Henri Matisse, 1869 Le Cateau-Cambrésis - 1954 Nice, French painter, printmaker, draughtsman and sculptor. Alongside Pablo Picasso, he is considered one of the most significant artists of Classical Modernism; here: a rare publisher’s announcement for the important work ‘Jazz’. This rare item, which was distributed in a small edition to selected collectors even before the actual publication, is an essential complement to ‘Jazz’ itself - and, paradoxically, even rarer than the masterpiece it promotes. The work is housed in its original grey-green paper folder, which features Matisse’s handwritten title ‘Jazz’ on the front and a vignette on the back. Inside, the announcement contains: a lithographed title page imitating Matisse’s handwriting, with a label from ‘Tériade éditeur’ affixed to it; four pages featuring the transcribed text by Matisse on ‘Jazz’; a page with a commentary by Kurt Martin; a facsimile manuscript page from *Jazz*, a list of plates and a bibliography of books illustrated by Matisse, but above all two double-page colour lithographs - *L’enterrement de Pierrot* and *Le lanceur de couteaux*, Paper slightly browned, 24.5 x 19 cm, Tériade éditeur, Paris, 1947
