Rudolf Hausner, “Eva’s Paravant”, signed colour lithograph from 1980, gallery-framed Rudolf Hausner, 1914 Vienna - 1995 Mödling, “Eva’s Paravant”, colour lithograph, 65 x 50 cm, signed, dated 1980, marked E.A. and titled, framed under glass About the artist: Rudolf Hausner began his studies in 1932 at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Carl Fahringer and Karl Sterrer. In 1938, the Reich Chamber of Culture imposed an exhibition ban on his paintings. In 1941, he was conscripted into the German Wehrmacht; in 1943, he was discharged as unfit for military service and employed as a technical draughtsman in the armaments industry. In the 1950s, he still had little success as a painter and repeatedly faced financial difficulties. In the 1960s, however, he gained increasing international renown as a ‘psychoanalytical painter’ who explored the human unconscious and the depths of the psyche in his works. In 1965, Rudolf Hausner was appointed Professor of Fine Art/Drawing at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts, where he remained until 1980. With his fictional character ‘Adam’, Rudolf Hausner created his own alter ego. This figure runs like a common thread through his work and serves as a reflection of the fears, doubts and consciousness of modern man.
