Hans Graeder, Female Nude with Cat, a rare mixed-media work from the 1960s, framed Hans Graeder, 1919 - Mannheim - 1998, German painter, graphic artist and sculptor, here: A rare, intimate portrait of a seated young female nude holding a cat in her arms, mixed media on cardboard, 70 x 50 cm, signed on the right, in original white frame About the artist: Hans Graeder is known above all for his willingness to experiment. He was regarded as an unconventional artist who introduced international influences into the regional art scene and later attracted attention through his innovative collage techniques. In 1934, Hans Graeder began a four-year apprenticeship as a lithographer, followed by a position as a journeyman in Mannheim. He furthered his artistic training by studying under Carl Trummer in Mannheim and Hans Gött in Munich. In 1953, Graeder emigrated to the USA and moved on again in 1964, before later returning to his hometown. His body of work ranges from drawings and watercolours to oil paintings and sculptural works, such as rare stone-cast sculptures. At the age of 71, he invented a novel collage technique. He cut his own older and more recent works into long strips and assembled them on large-format canvases to create entirely new pictorial structures and temporal layers. He first exhibited publicly at the Kunsthalle Mannheim as early as 1947. His famous ‘Re-Visionen’ were presented in full there and at the Rosengarten Mannheim in 1990.
