Leonor Fini, “Visage de jeune fille mélancolique”, signed colour lithograph Leonor Fini, 1907 Buenos Aires - 1996 Paris, Argentine-Italian surrealist painter, here: “Visage de jeune fille mélancolique” - Face of a young melancholic woman, colour lithograph in warm ochre and gold tones, 63 x 44.5 cm, marked E.A. (épreuve d’artiste = artist’s proof), signed on the right About the artist: Leonor Fini is regarded as one of the most idiosyncratic and independent figures of Surrealism and Modernism. In the 1930s, she moved to Paris, where she befriended artists such as Max Ernst, Salvador Dalí and Meret Oppenheim. Known for her depictions of strong, dominant women and androgynous figures, she nevertheless always refused official membership of the Surrealist group led by André Breton in order to preserve her artistic freedom. The Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt is dedicating a major retrospective to the artist this autumn/winter (23 October 2026 to 28 February 2027). This is the first comprehensive solo exhibition on Leonor Fini in Germany for many years.
