Piero Dorazio, portfolio of 10 signed colour lithographs Piero Dorazio, 1927 Rome - 2005 Perugia, Italian painter regarded as one of Italy’s most significant artists of the second half of the 20th century and a pioneer of abstraction in Italy; shown here: Abstract Compositions, portfolio containing 10 colour lithographs, each measuring 21 x 24 cm, each signed and numbered XXX/XXX, in a blue portfolio About the artist: Piero Dorazio’s ‘abstract’, non-representational visual language is characterised by the use of pure primary colours, which he superimposes, interweaves and repeats in serial patterns in the form of stripes, strokes, lines, fields and planes. From the late 1950s onwards, the first compositions-consisting of parallel bands of colour-began to emerge in his New York studio, and these would henceforth characterise his work. Dorazio then transferred the structure of these works into his painting. Dorazio was a member of the Movimento per l’arte concreta (MAC) group in Milan. In 1959, he took part in documenta 2 and also in documenta 3 in Kassel in 1964.
