Berto Lardera & Hansjörg Gisiger, 2 signed Colour lithographs from ‘Documenta Geigy - The Unease in Art’ from 1965 Berto (Roberto) Lardera, 1911 La Spezia - 1989 Paris, Italian-French sculptor and graphic artist, here: Dynamic Blue-Black; and Hansjörg Gisiger, 1919 Basel - 2008, Swiss sculptor, painter and graphic artist, here: Dynamic Red, Black and Blue, 2 colour lithographs from: ‘Documenta Geigy - Das Unbehagen in der Kunst’ (a renowned, highly sought-after art portfolio published in 1965 by the Swiss chemical and pharmaceutical group J.R. Geigy AG in Basel), each 55 x 39 cm, each numbered 57/300, each signed. About the artists: Berto Ladera held his first solo exhibition in Milan in 1942. In 1947, Ladera moved to Paris, where he lived and worked until his death in 1989. In 1965, he became a French citizen. In Paris, he began exhibiting at the ‘Galerie Denise René’, and later at the ‘Salon de Mai’ and the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles. In 1948, 1950 and 1952, Lardera took part in the Venice Biennale, representing Italy. He also took part in documenta 1, documenta II and documenta III in Kassel in 1955, 1959 and 1964 respectively. Hansjörg Gisiger made a significant mark on post-war art through his abstract sculptures, fountain installations and graphic works; the fountain “Fontaine à la gloire de l’eau” in Lausanne is regarded as one of his most striking public works. Gisiger graduated from the Basel School of Art in the 1940s and opened his own studio in Lausanne as early as 1946. By 1949, he was already exhibiting his works at a show in Paris, where he regularly visited avant-garde artists such as Jean Arp. In order to foster closer links between Swiss artists and the international art scene, he founded the Swiss section of the Espace group. In 1956, he became a professor at the École des beaux-arts de Lausanne. Works by Hansjörg Gisiger can be found, amongst other places, at the Aargauer Kunsthaus, the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne, the Musée d’art de Pully, the Minneapolis Institute of Art and the Musée National d’Art Moderne in Paris.
