No. 4-B 18’ / "Landscape 1918", framedAbout the artist: From 1903 to 1905, Hans Breinlinger completed an apprenticeship as a photographer and retoucher. Until 1908, he worked as a photographer in Nuremberg, Freiburg im Breisgau, Lausanne, Boulogne-sur-Mer, Paris and Stuttgart. He returned to Konstanz in 1909 and, from 1911, began studying at the Grand Ducal Baden Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe. His painting style was influenced there by Wilhelm Trübner. In the early 1920s, he met the writer Alice Berend; he married her in London in 1926 and moved with her to Berlin. Through his wife, her younger sister Charlotte Berend-Corinth and his brother-in-law Lovis Corinth, Breinlinger gained access to Berlin society. In 1943, his flat and studio in Berlin were bombed, and Breinlinger returned to Konstanz. From 1948, he worked as a curator at the Städtische Wessenberg-Galerie in Konstanz. In 1947, he became a board member and exhibition director of the Kunstverein Konstanz, and from 1951 he was a board member of the Sezession Oberschwaben-Bodensee.
