There he was taught by, amongst others, renowned artists such as the history painter Anton von Werner and Max Michael. His work was shaped by extensive study trips to Italy and Switzerland, which are reflected in numerous light-filled landscape motifs, such as his well-known and rare views of San Vigilio on Lake Garda! In addition to Mediterranean landscapes, he also captured German cultural landscapes, such as the rural goings-on during the pumpkin harvest in the Spreewald. He was firmly rooted in the Berlin art scene and was active in various associations; for instance, he was a long-standing member of the Association of Berlin Artists (from 1891 until at least 1939). His works were regularly exhibited at major national art exhibitions in Berlin and Düsseldorf. A highlight of his career was the presentation of his works at the 1915 World’s Fair in San Francisco.
