Wang KEPING (sculptor of Chinese origin, born in 1949). Reclining Woman - 1991. Large wooden sculpture, signed on the base. H_62 cm W_148 cm D_59 cm Exhibition: City Hall, Paris, May–July 1992. Bibliography: Wang Keping, Frederic Bleuet, Peter Briggs, *Sculptures*, City Hall, Paris (reproduced). We thank Studio Wang Keping for the information they provided. A certificate of authenticity accompanies this work. Note: Born in China in 1949, Wang Keping is one of the founding members of the dissident group “Les Étoiles” (Xingxing), alongside Ai Weiwei and Ma Desheng; an avant-garde movement that emerged in Beijing in the late 1970s, in the aftermath of the Cultural Revolution. Forced into exile in France in 1984, Wang established himself there as a major figure in contemporary Chinese sculpture. Working almost exclusively in wood, Wang Keping developed a minimalist and sensual sculptural language—influenced by ancient Chinese aesthetics, European Expressionism, and a form of organic abstraction inherited from Brancusi.
