Henri-Edmond Cross (Douai, 1856 – Le Lavandou, 1910) Bord de mer Oil on panel 13 × 18.5 cm Cross began exhibiting at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris in 1884, the year of the first exhibition of what would become the annual gathering of Neo-Impressionist artists. Along with Seurat and Signac, he championed a chromo-luminarist approach to painting based on the division of tones. This *Seaside*, governed by the principle of juxtaposing brushstrokes and contrasting colored shadows, exhibits the characteristics of Divisionist works. It bears witness to the aesthetic explorations conducted by Cross with his closest friends, Signac and Van Rysselberghe, during their summer stays in the Var region. Provenance - Private collection, France Certificat d’authenticité Notice of inclusion in the supplement to the catalog raisonné of the works of Henri-Edmond Cross issued by Patrick Offenstadt on September 10, 2025 (No. 25.09.10/878)
