Antonio Francesco Peruzzini (1643/1646-1724) Landscape with figures Oil on canvas 98x148 cm Antonio Francesco Peruzzini (c. 1643-1724), born in Ancona, was an important Italian landscape painter active between the late 17th and early 18th centuries. From the early 1690s he developed a long-standing collaboration with Alessandro Magnasco, frequently providing the landscape settings for compositions in which Magnasco painted the figures. Their partnership is documented in the collection of Grand Prince Ferdinando de’ Medici, for whom both artists worked in Tuscany during the early years of the 18th century. Dating from this period, the present work reflects Peruzzini’s close artistic relationship with Magnasco. Its vigorous handling, freely applied brushwork and areas of thick impasto are characteristic of Peruzzini’s mature landscape painting.
