Bobby Fischer and William Lombardy Signed Cover - World Chess Championship 1972 Commemorative cover with a cachet of the coat of arms of Iceland, postmarked at Reykjavík on July 11, 1972, signed in blue ballpoint, "Bobby Fischer," and in red felt tip, "Will Lombardy." In very fine condition. This cover dates to the opening days of the legendary 1972 World Chess Championship in Reykjavík, where Bobby Fischer challenged defending champion Boris Spassky in the Cold War-charged 'Match of the Century.' William Lombardy, a grandmaster and former World Junior Champion, served as Fischer’s chief second during the match, making the pairing especially significant: Fischer’s signature represents the eventual world champion, while Lombardy’s connects the piece directly to the small inner circle that supported him through one of the most famous contests in chess history.
