The Informer Original Script by Dudley Nichols Original script for The Informer, written by Dudley Nichols from the novel by Liam O'Flaherty, 8.5 x 13.75, 102 pages, bound at the top. In very good to fine condition, with staining and small areas of paper loss to the plain wrappers, and toned tape reinforcements across the top. From the collection of Gerda Robison, who worked as a story researcher and stenographer for Disney in the 1940s and 50s. She authored the book Dark Lady, and later served as Cecil Beaton's assistant on My Fair Lady. Released in 1935, The Informer is one of director John Ford’s defining early achievements, a brooding drama set amid the Irish revolutionary struggle and starring Victor McLaglen as a tormented man who betrays a former comrade. The film earned six Academy Award nominations and won four—Best Director for Ford, Best Actor for McLaglen, Best Screenplay for Dudley Nichols, and Best Score for Max Steiner—with Nichols famously becoming the first person to decline an Oscar, in protest over the Academy’s opposition to the Screen Writers Guild. Long regarded as a landmark of 1930s American filmmaking, The Informer was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry in 2018.
