Michael Jackson Early Signed Candid Photograph Vintage color satin-finish 3.5 x 4.75 candid photo of a young Michael Jackson, who has signed nicely in blue felt tip. The reverse bears “This Paper Manufactured by Kodak” watermarks and collectors' notations indicating that the photograph was taken at the Century Plaza Hotel on January 28, 1973, when Jackson attended the Golden Globe Awards. In fine condition. Michael Jackson won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song on January 28, 1973, for ‘Ben,’ the title song from the 1972 film of the same name. Just 14 years old, Jackson attended the ceremony at the Century Plaza Hotel with his parents, Joe and Katherine Jackson, and performed ‘Ben’ during the event. Written by Walter Scharf and Don Black, the song became Jackson’s first No. 1 solo single on the Billboard Hot 100 and was subsequently nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. From the autograph collection of Ilia Gonzalez, who began collecting as a child in Santa Monica after discovering celebrities rehearsing for the Academy Awards at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. As an adult, Gonzalez photographed celebrities at award shows, movie premieres, television tapings, parades, fundraisers, and other events, often obtaining their autographs directly on her photographs, sometimes with the help of her mother. With the exception of a Charlie Chaplin photograph that Gonzalez later mailed to him in Switzerland for signing, the signed photographs in her collection were obtained in her presence.
