C. S. Lewis Autograph Letter Signed on "the Narnian stories" Influential Irish author and scholar (1898-1963), a former atheist who became an eloquent convert to Christianity, best known for his works on Christian theology and his much-beloved, seven-book juvenile fantasy series The Chronicles of Narnia. ALS, signed "C. S. Lewis," one page, 8 x 5, June 25, 1961. Handwritten letter addressed, "Dear Readers," sent to in full: "I can't write to you all, so I am addressing this to S. Bowerson whose letter was at the top of the pile, and I hope he will pass this on to all the others. I am so glad you like the Narnian stories and I enjoyed your nice letters and pictures." In fine condition, with central vertical and horizontal folds. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Lewis's own hand. Written during the later years of Lewis’s career, this warm note reflects the extraordinary reach of The Chronicles of Narnia, whose seven volumes had been published between 1950 and 1956. Addressed collectively to a group of young admirers, the letter offers an appealing glimpse of Lewis responding personally to the enthusiasm of his child readers, acknowledging not only their letters but also the drawings inspired by his beloved fantasy world.
