Albert Einstein Signed Photograph, Taken by Nazi Resistance Fighter John Graudenz Vintage matte-finish 4.5 x 6.5 silver gelatin portrait of Albert Einstein by German press photographer John Graudenz, affixed to its original 7.5 x 11 mount, signed and inscribed on the mount in fountain pen to a family friend, "Frau Hede Schloss zum Andenken, A. Einstein, 1930.” In fine condition, with faint silvering to dark areas of the image. The photographer, John Graudenz (1884-1942), adds a remarkable historical dimension to the portrait. A prominent German journalist and press photographer, he served as United Press’s Berlin bureau chief and was the first journalist to report Lenin’s death to the American press. An outspoken opponent of Hitler, Graudenz later became a member of the anti-Nazi resistance network dubbed the 'Red Orchestra' by the Gestapo, supplying military intelligence and helping distribute anti-Nazi materials. Arrested in 1942, he was executed at Berlin’s Plötzensee Prison later that year.
