George W. Bush Autograph Letter Signed as Governor to Illinois Governor George Ryan - 2000 Presidential Campaign ALS, one page both sides, 7 x 5, personal Governor of Texas stationery card, October 6, 2000. Handwritten letter to Illinois Governor George Ryan, in full: “Laura and I were sorry to learn of your sister's death. The rally in Miami was great.” In very fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Bush wrote during the final weeks of the 2000 presidential campaign, just three days after his first debate with Vice President Al Gore in Boston. The “rally in Miami” most likely refers to the Victory 2000 rally Bush and Laura Bush held at the Coconut Grove Convention Center on September 22, the only Miami rally appearing on his public schedule between the Republican National Convention and the date of this card. On October 6 itself, Bush and Laura campaigned in Illinois, holding a Victory 2000 rally at Williamson County Regional Airport in Marion.
