John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Signed Inaugural Photograph to Cousin Ann Gargan, "who helped put me up here...I'm not so sure it was a good idea" Color vintage glossy 10 x 8 photo of the Kennedys and Johnsons watching the inaugural parade in Washington, D.C. on January 20, 1961, signed and inscribed in the lower border in fountain pen to Ann Gargan, "For Ann—who helped put me up here—with the affectionate best wishes of her cousin, John F. Kennedy" and "For Ann who helped put me up here too and I'm not so sure it was a good idea, Much love, Jackie.” Annotated on the reverse with the photographer's information, "Tony Spline, Detroit Free Press, January 20, 1961." In very good to fine condition, with scattered creases, primarily to the presidential insignia and the upper background. Ann Gargan was JFK’s first cousin, the daughter of Rose Kennedy’s younger sister, Agnes Fitzgerald Gargan. Orphaned at a young age, Ann and her siblings remained closely connected to the Kennedy family, spending considerable time with their cousins at Hyannis Port and other family homes. She later became a devoted caretaker to her uncle, Joseph P. Kennedy, remaining at the former ambassador’s side during the years of disability that followed his 1961 stroke; through her, JFK maintained an especially personal connection to his ailing father.
