John F. Kennedy 1963 Memorial Sign: "All S and H Redemption Centers Will Be Closed" Hand-inked 30 x 14 memorial sign on Crescent illustration board, reading: "In Memory of Our Late President, John F. Kennedy, All S and H Redemption Centers Will Be Closed, Monday, November 25, 1963." In very good to fine condition, with light scattered staining and surface impressions. Created in the immediate aftermath of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination on November 22, 1963, this hand-lettered sign reflects the nationwide mourning that followed his death. President Lyndon B. Johnson ordered federal departments and agencies closed on Monday, November 25, the day of Kennedy’s state funeral. Businesses and private organizations across the country also closed or reduced operations in observance. Made for display at an S&H Green Stamps redemption center, the sign offers a simple, poignant record of how Kennedy’s death affected everyday American life.
