Kennedy's cousin Ann Gargan, including: - two ticket stubs from the Democratic National Convention Dinner held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, on July 10, 1960. - one ticket stub from the third session of the Democratic National Convention, held in Los Angeles on July 13, 1960, with "13" annotated in ballpoint. - a "Congratulations" telegram sent to "Miss Ann Gargan, Care J[o]seph P. Kennedy," dated July 14, 1960, following JFK's nomination for president: "It is 205. We are thrilled beyond words just saw you on TV. You know how we all feel. Congrateulations." - an official 1961 Inaugural Committee envelope addressed to Ann Gargan at Joseph P. Kennedy's Palm Beach address, containing: an admission pass to the "President's Platform"; a complete ticket to the Inaugural Ball; invitations to the Governors' Reception, Hospitality Committee Reception, Inaugural Ball, Inaugural Concert, and Inaugural Ceremonies; a program for the Inaugural Ceremonies and an Inaugural Activities schedule; an official Congressional Inaugural Ceremonies invitation package, with a program and portraits of JFK and LBJ featuring their facsimile signatures; an official U.S. Senate Inaugural Ceremonies invitation package, with a ribbon-bound program and portraits of JFK and LBJ featuring their facsimile signatures; and an official Inaugural Committee invitation. - a 1961 "Inaugural Spectacle" souvenir edition of Life Magazine. - a 1961 telephone directory for the "Palm Beach White House," paperclipped to a copy of the "Official Telephone Directory" for the presidential party, dated Hyannis Port, May 1961. - an official 1965 Inaugural Committee envelope and invitation to the ceremonies for Lyndon B. Johnson and Hubert H. Humphrey. All are housed in a zippered vinyl folder emblazoned "Kennedy for President." In overall very good to fine condition. Spanning Kennedy’s rise from nominee to president, this archive traces the transformation of the 1960 campaign into the new administration—from the Los Angeles convention, where Kennedy secured the Democratic nomination on July 13, 1960, to his inauguration as the nation’s 35th president on January 20, 1961. Preserved by his cousin Ann Gargan, the unusually personal assemblage of convention tickets, inaugural credentials, programs, invitations, and early White House telephone directories offers a vivid insider’s record of the Kennedy family’s close involvement in these landmark events.
