John F. Kennedy: Early 1945 Radio Interview Acetates (2) Early pair of double-sided 12″ acetate recordings of a radio interview with the young John F. Kennedy, each side carrying an Associated Recording Studios label filled out in type: "Mary Waterstreet and Jack Kennedy, Recorded: Date: 5/16/45, Time 10:00 AM, Origin: KSFO, San Francisco," and marked as "Part I" through "Part IV." In overall fine condition, with tears and losses to the fragile paper sleeves. Recorded at a remarkable transitional moment in John F. Kennedy’s life, these discs date to his brief stint as a journalist immediately after his wartime Navy service. In the spring of 1945, the 27-year-old Kennedy was in San Francisco reporting for Hearst Newspapers on the United Nations Conference on International Organization, the historic gathering that produced the U.N. Charter. Recorded on May 16—while the conference was still underway—this interview preserves the voice of the future president a decade before his rise to national political prominence, making it an unusually early piece from the formative period between his military career and his entry into Congress.
