William McKinley Typed Letter Signed: "I welcome you within the Republicans fold" TLS signed “W. McKinley,” one page, 5.5 x 7.75, personal letterhead, July 25, 1896. Letter to Louis Wolf, in full: "I welcome you within the Republicans fold and thank you in a personal sense for your assurance of support." In fine condition, with a couple tiny edge tears. Written in the opening weeks of the 1896 general-election campaign, shortly after William Jennings Bryan secured the Democratic nomination, this letter captures McKinley actively welcoming new converts to the Republican cause. The contest centered heavily on monetary policy and economic recovery, with McKinley and the Republicans backing the gold standard and protective tariffs against Bryan’s campaign for free silver.
