Original DRAWING by Félix Benoist (1818–1896) in graphite, highlighted with white gouache, on tracing paper. PREPARATORY DRAWING for the lithograph titled "Women and Fishermen of Nice: Ponchettes Beach in Nice," for the album "NICE AND SAVOY" published in 1864 by Charpentier. Original preparatory drawing with numerous handwritten annotations in pencil by the artist, including “the women generally have their hair styled with considerable care…,” “for the background, the motif from a photograph that will be attached to this tracing”… Provenance: Collection of the Charpentier studio, directed by Pierre-Henri (1788–1854) and his son Henri-Désiré (1806–1883), printers and publishers based in Paris, then in Nantes (from 1854 onward). Approximately 18.5 x 35 cm. Condition B (a few short tears and rare small losses along the edges of the sheet, traces of folding and handling, good overall condition).
