THE CIRCLE OR STUDIO OF PIERRE AUGUSTE RENOIR (1841–1919) Still Life with Garlic, Potatoes, Apricot, and a Terracotta Pitcher Sketch, oil on canvas mounted on panel. This rustic composition features simple kitchen ingredients arranged on a countertop. In the foreground on the right, a plump head of garlic stands out with its luminous whiteness. It is flanked by several irregularly shaped potatoes with ochre-brown skin, as well as a ripe fruit with salmon-colored hues in the center. On the left, a small dark brown glazed terracotta pitcher with a handle completes the group of objects, alongside a few celery leaves or aromatic herbs. The background, brushed in a very dynamic manner with broad, diagonal strokes in shades of sienna and brown, lends an intimate and warm atmosphere to this table scene. Condition: As is. Unsigned study. A studio pinhole is visible on the upper edge. Slight peripheral scuffing; a small loss of support on the lower right corner. Dimensions: 17 x 36 cm.
