THE CIRCLE OR STUDIO OF PIERRE AUGUSTE RENOIR (1841–1919) Bouquet of Roses in a Earthenware Vase and a Cut Rose on the Mantelpiece Sketch, oil on mounted canvas. This delicate still life is centered around a white porcelain vase with soft golden highlights. It holds a bouquet of fully bloomed roses, dominated in the center by a large, pearly cream-white rose. In the foreground, resting directly on the wooden table, a cut rose lies on its side, adding a touch of melancholic poetry to the composition. The neutral background, painted with fluid, nuanced brushstrokes in a monochrome palette of grays, soft purples, and ochre, envelops the bouquet in a dreamy atmosphere. Condition: As is. Unsigned study. Studio pin holes clearly visible in the upper corners. Slight peripheral rubbing; a small piece of cardboard is missing from the upper right corner. Dimensions: 53.5 x 36 cm.
