VICTOR LEOPOLD BRUYNEEL (1859–?) Bust of a Woman with a Large Hat Sculpture in white Carrara marble, signed. Dimensions: 58 x 33 x 35 cm - A Belgian sculptor born in Ghent, he spent much of his career in Paris, where he produced the bulk of his work in the Academic and Art Nouveau styles. Bruyneel specialized primarily in creating female busts—elegant young women of the Belle Époque, often depicted with sophisticated hairstyles, feathered hats, or hair flowing “in the wind,” in graceful, smiling poses typical of the 1900 aesthetic. This large female bust is a particularly accomplished and captivating example of his art. The large hat, with its generous and supple shape, is an iconic symbol of Belle Époque feminine elegance and a hallmark of the artist’s style.
