ITALIAN SCHOOL, 17TH CENTURY Major Crucifixion Very large oil on canvas Dimensions: 198 x 126 cm The painting depicts Christ on the cross, arms outstretched, head tilted toward his right shoulder, wearing a crown of thorns with a radiant halo, a white perizonium tied around his waist, traces of blood on his hands, feet, and side, with a visible wound on his right side. Inscription: a speech bubble reading “I.N.R.I.” at the top of the cross, set against a dark, stormy landscape; the turbulent sky with contrasting clouds contrasts with the silhouette of a city in the left background—possibly Jerusalem.
