AFTER CORREGGIO, 18TH CENTURY The Mystical Marriage of Saint Catherine An important period engraving based on the famous classical composition from the original work by Antonio Allegri, known as Correggio. The central scene depicts the mystical marriage of Saint Catherine the Virgin. The letter at the bottom bears the complete inscription in French explaining the allegory: “St. Catherine the Virgin is united with Jesus.” In the center, an engraved vignette depicts a landscape and small royal coats of arms. Mounted under glass in a large molded gilded wood frame. Dimensions: 54.5 x 40 cm (viewable area)
